Abstract

After purchasing an Ammi Phillips painting in 1958, the Holdridges began their extensive research into the artist’s life and work. Their research identified more than three hundred portraits done by Phillips and proved the theory that A. Phillips, the Border Limner, and the Kent Limner were all one artist, Ammi Phillips. The collection includes correspondence, photographs, and research notes related to the Holdridges' Ammi Phillips research.

Abstract The collection comprises a late-18th century bible owned by Lucinda Coleman, with accompanying provenance documentation and locket wrapping. Lucinda Coleman was born in Sag Harbor, New York between 1763-1771 and died in 1849. During the American Revolutionary War (1775-1783), a band of British soldiers invaded the Coleman kitchen, raiding the oven, and stealing loaves of bread. Abstract The New York Quilt Project (NYQP) was initiated by the American Folk Art Museum and attempted to locate, document, preserve, and create an archive for the quilts made in New York State prior to 1940. The documented quilts were made from 1753 to 1940.
