Summary
This recording features two separate interviews with artists Mary K. Borkowski and Denzil Goodpaster, conducted by Chuck and Jan Rosenak.
The Rosenaks speak with Mark K. Borkowski at her home in Dayton, Ohio. Throughout the interview the speakers reference various works placed throughout Borkowski’s home. Borkowski talks about her childhood growing up in Ohio. She talks about learning to sew from her mother, and how she began to sew by making cloths for her dolls. Borkwoski also discusses how she began making silk thread paintings, as well as the materials she uses to make them.
After the Borkowski recording is a shorter interview with Denzil Goodpaster at his home. Goodpaster’s wife and daugher can also be heard on this recording. Goodpaster shares information about the materials he uses to make his canes. At the time of this recording, he estimated that he’s made on average about 100 canes per year for the past 14 years.
