Summary
This recording was made in Delaplane, Virginia, where Steve Ashby was born and lived his life. The recording was made some time after the artist’s death (1980). Speakers include: Elle S. “Tina” Leas [phonetic] (shopkeeper), James Kuzel [phonetic] (friend of artist), Wilmer Thornley (friend of the artist), Earlene Ashby Williams (sister of the artist), Chuck Rosenak, Jan Rosenak, and six unidentified speakers. Chuck and Jan Rosenak ask similar questions of all of the interviewees about Steve’s life in Delaplane, his work as a farmer, the home he rented, his wife, the names of his eleven siblings, and his artwork. In the second half of the recording, Earlene Ashby Williams details the information that Chuck and Jan are looking for, including her memories of the night Steve Ashby passed away.
