Scope and Contents

Printed on the back of the wall hanging:

"Designed and made by Diane Suterland, Vestal, NY for the New York Quilt Project (sponsored by the Museum of American Folk Art, 61 W. 62nd St. New York City).

Fabrics used are 100% cotton, cotton muslin in background hand-dyed using RIT dye. Batting is Fairfield Traditional polyester. "WonderUnder" was used to adhere counties to the background. County outlies were machine satin stitched. All quilting was done by hand.

Each patch represents a county (62 counties) in New York State. Each bead embellishment designates the county seat. It took 63 hours to complete the map.

The Patchwork map will be displayed at the New York Quilt Documentation Days then donated to the Museum of American Folk Art."
