Robert Bishop's Tintypes

 Collection — Box: 1
Identifier: A0071

Abstract

This collection contains three whole plate tintypes (8.5" x 6.5"). They are portrait photographs, depicting a single woman, a single man, and a duo of younger women respectively. There is very little provenance for these items at this time. The photos depict individuals that appear to be from the 19th century, however the date that these photos were taken or created is unknown. All three tintypes are hand-tinted or painted. The tintype depicting the pair of younger women shows the most painting. The single man and woman tintypes may be a pair; a sticker on the back of one suggests they were sold together. Moreover, both portraits show a border in the image, suggesting that these tintypes are reproductions of ambrotypes or daguerreotypes.
