Scope and Contents

From the Series:

The series Sales, Rights, and Management contains material that relates to the management of Ralph Fasanella’s career. Although Fasanella was primarily a painter, he was involved in businesses, including a vibrant poster business and an active reproduction business. Fasanella’s paintings were often reproduced in books, including textbooks, as well as in other printed matter. Sub-series A: Painting Management through Sub-series D: Print Publications contain material related to managing Fasanella’s original artwork, including conservation and framing, and managing his reproductions, both in poster form as well as in various printed matter and publications. Sub-series E: Films includes material related to some of the various films, shorts, documentaries, and television programs that are either about Ralph Fasanella or feature his artwork. The Public Domain Project, in Sub-series F, was a project facilitated by Ron Carver that attempted to put Fasanella’s paintings in public institutions, such as museums, public halls, labor unions, and government buildings. The final sub-series, Court Cases, contains material primarily about Davidson v. Fasanella.

Much of the material in this series is in Eva Fasanella’s hand, and shows that she was incredibly involved in Fasanella’s career. A great majority of the correspondence is written by Eva on behalf of Ralph, and many of the correspondents write to Eva very familiarly, indicating her very personal investment in her work.
