Scope and Contents

From the Series:

This series contains primarily photographs, negatives, and slides, as well as some written research material related to folk artists. The Rosenaks visited many of these artists, and photographed them in their homes and studios, with their artwork and sometimes their families. The Rosenaks used these photographs as research material for their books Museum of American Folk Art Encyclopedia of Twentieth-Century American Folk Art and Artists (New York: Abbeville, 1990), The People Speak: Navajo Folk Art (Flagstaff, Arizona: Northland Publishing, 1994), Contemporary American Folk Art: A Collector's Guide (New York: Abbeville, 1996), and The Saint Makers: Contemporary Santeras y Santeros (Flagstaff, Arizona: Northland Publishing, 1998). The written material in the series includes drafts of writing by the Rosenaks, as well as some press clippings. This material was kept with the visual material because the amount was not significant enough to separate the two types.
